Bendigo Bank backs NSW Home Buyer Helper Scheme

25 September 2023 |Announcements

More house hunters in New South Wales are realising their dream of homeownership, thanks to Bendigo Bank and the NSW Government’s Shared Equity Home Buyer Helper Scheme.

The Bank has so far helped 294 customers into affordable and secure housing, with 349 customers approved to find their new home.

With many families, first homeowners and those on a single income struggling to enter the market across New South Wales, Bendigo Bank wants to spread the word that Shared Equity Schemes might be the answer.

“We know Shared Equity Schemes aren’t for everyone, but with higher property prices presenting challenges for many Australians trying to save a deposit, we’re seeing more customers turn to shared equity as an alternative,” Chief Customer Officer of Consumer Banking, Richard Fennell said.

“In many cases, Shared Equity Schemes have allowed our customers to realise their dream of homeownership years before they would have been able to make it a reality going it on their own."

“At Bendigo Bank, we’re a fierce advocate for any program which will lead to more Australian’s owning their own homes and we’re here to help find the best solution for house hunters in New South Wales,” Mr Fennell said.

Single mum, Kellie Gawler never thought she would own her own home, but thanks to NSW’s Shared Equity Scheme, and Bendigo Bank – it has become a reality.

“Being in my very first home, I am feeling very proud I have accomplished such an enormous achievement. I thought I would never in my wildest dreams own my own home, and now it’s a reality,” Kellie said.

“Without the help of the Home Buyer Scheme and Bendigo Bank, buying my first home would have taken me three times as long to save and being a single mum, that was going to be really tough."

“Given this was my first home, I had no idea of the process I needed to go through, but my Bendigo Bank Mobile Lender, Lisa was an absolute delight to work with and very professional,” Kellie said.

Kellie wants to put the word out to others who are also hunting for their first home, saying she would highly recommend it to others, particularly to younger people wanting to get their foot in the homeownership door.

“I would definitely recommend this Scheme to younger people out there wanting to get into their home. I wish there was something like this available to me at their age."

“A massive thank you to Bendigo Bank and the NSW Government for the opportunity. I wish everyone in my shoes could have the same opportunity,” Kellie concluded.
