Bendigo Bank launches 2024 Western Victoria Bushfire Appeal
In response to the recent and ongoing bushfires sweeping across western Victoria, Bendigo Bank is stepping up to support affected communities by initiating the 2024 Western Bushfire Appeal.
The request for the appeal has been led by Community Bank Beaufort and Community Bank Avoca.
The Bendigo Bank 2024 Western Bushfire Appeal will be facilitated by the Bank’s charitable arm, the Community Enterprise Foundation, which has extensive expertise in running appeals across Victoria.
CEO and Managing Director of Bendigo Bank, Marnie Baker said the Bank understood the importance of urgent collective community action with many families displaced and properties damaged by the destructive fires.
“The Bendigo Bank 2024 Western Bushfire Appeal will direct financial assistance towards both immediate relief efforts, helping those impacted to rebuild their lives and longer-term resilience strategies, to help in future emergency situations,” Ms Baker said.
“Bendigo Bank is committed to supporting those who need our help in challenging times. Together, we can make a positive impact and assist in the recovery process.
“Every donation will make a difference in helping those affected by the bushfires. Unfortunately, we’ve had a lot of practice at this and understand the importance of working closely with local communities to identify the assistance they need,” Ms Baker concluded.
Community Bank Beaufort Chair, Alan McCartney said with homes lost and significant farm infrastructure damaged including shedding, fencing and stock losses, the Community Banks affected wanted to do everything they could to help the local community get through this challenging time.
“Community Bank Beaufort and Community Bank Avoca stand ready to support our customers and communities in times of need. That is why we’re kicking off the launch of the appeal with a $20,000 contribution,” Mr McCartney said.
In 2023, the Foundation distributed $1.7 million into Australian communities for ongoing disaster relief and resilience and long-term recovery of bushfire affected communities. The Foundation has distributed more than $175 million since its inception in 2005.
How to donate:
People wishing to support these communities are encouraged to provide monetary donations directly to the 2024 Western Bushfire Appeal as monetary donations are quicker, more effective, and logistically provide far more flexibility than donations of material items or pre-loved goods. Donations can be made at any time online here or at your local Bendigo Bank branch. All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
