Following the February 2021 bushfires in East of Perth, the community rallied and donated to the WA Summer Bushfire Appeal. This appeal is helping locals to try and get back to normal.
In partnership with our local Community Bank Mundaring, these events provide support for locals. Information sharing and support, including friendship and community connection.
Funds from the appeal helped the CWA host a thank you event for the volunteer firefighters. It recognised the important job they do in the community. The event helped boost the local volunteer’s mental health and ensured they felt appreciated by the communities they serve.
Thanks to another grant, Parkerville Community Care have put on a series of Wooroloo bushfire recovery dinners.
Last month’s dinner saw a guest speaker talk about environmental issues the community is facing after the bushfires.
Some individuals are still dealing with the loss of their property and damage to their community surrounds. These events are helping the community build resilience and strengthen their wellbeing.
The opportunity to meet over a meal to share their stories has offered a means of self-healing.
